On August 7th, we finally packed our bags and flew to Miami! We finally got to cool off and jump into the sea… Unfortunately, that was the one thing we were missing in New York. We had booked the SOBE hostel for this time and slept there 6 nights in a mixed dormitory of four.
To be honest … the hostel was amazing! Nevertheless, for a couple who not only wanted to party, but wanted to get up very early in the morning to discover Miami, it wasn´t very good. Let’s put it this way … You could sleep better during the day than at night.
We were really happy that we had our own locks and were able to protect our entire luggage, as we had heard from some people, that they had “lost” stuff. To see what else we had with us, click here on Emily‘s packing list.
We generally really liked Miami! It has a completely different vibe to New York and the beach is incredibly beautiful.
What to do in Miami?

- Miami Beach
By far the most beautiful beach we have ever been to. The sea and the sandy beach are so beautiful and almost empty

- Ocean Drive, South Beach
The hostel was in South Beach, so we spent most of the time there. We walked the Ocean Drive completely from one end to the other. The various shops, bars and restaurants are very nice to look at. Watch out for a rainbow crosswalk on your way along the Ocean Drive.

- South Pointe Park & South Pointe Pier
To watch the sunset at the port in Miami … what more can I say.

- Downtown Miami
We can only recommend you to cross the bridge from South Pointe to Miami. Downtown Miami is really beautiful.

- Wynwood Walls & Art District
We’re not really fans of Graffiti, but the Wynwood Walls are really impressive.
- Everglades
On day 3, we were in the Everglades. We booked a tour with Banana Joe Tours. Unfortunately, it rained and stormed on the first day and it was to dangerous to go out on the airboat. But the Tour guide and Banana Joe Tours were so friendly and allowed us to go again the next day and do the real tour. It was incredible.
Did you know that alligators can’t move backwards? And if you look at them from the side, they always look like they are smiling 🙂
Where did we eat in Miami?

It is the cutest restaurant ever!! And it was only a few blocks away from our hostel!

Phil had picked out a food spot for the next day. They have the best burger in the world!
- TGI Fridays
- Pizza Rustica South Beach
